| Rev.
Richard Cannon, Pastor
Father Cannon was born in Boston but moved with his
family to Millis at an early age. His father worked for 35 years
for Boston Edison and his mother was a nurse at St. Elizabeth’s
Hospital. Both are living in retirement. One brother, Ken, is a
priest who has settled in St. John’s Parish, Hopkinton, after
years as a missionary in the Philippines. Ted is a Medfield lawyer
and Bob a manufacturer’s representative. His sister Maureen
is the wife of a doctor, mother of six children and lives in El
Paso, Texas, where she once taught bio-chemistry at the University
of Texas at El Paso. His sister Kerry has three sons and his sister
Moira two daughters.
Father Cannon attended Millis High School
where he played football and baseball on some pretty good
scholastic teams. “I was the best mediocre halfback Millis ever had,” he joked. “I still try to get back there for the Thanksgiving Day game.”
He attended UMass-Amherst before entering
St. John’s Seminary to study for the priesthood. He was ordained by Bernard Cardinal Law and celebrated his first Mass in St. Thomas Church, Millis, June 7, 1986. His first assignment was at St. Brigid’s in South Boston, where he remained for five years, then Holy Ghost in Whitman for another five. He had been at St. Vincent de Paul for nine years when the call came to St. John’s. |
